Classes at cone 10 studios

Sessions are delayed indefinitely as our building is for sale and we actively look for a new site. As our situation is uncertain, we can not commit to classes at this time. Thank you.

 

 

 

cone 10 studios offers open studio time for student work, and high fire reduction firing. Class sizes are limited to provide space and individual instruction.  Course fees include glaze and firing.  Clay and beginner’s tools are extra except where indicated. Course fees: $240 Unless otherwise stated.

Class Descriptions

Intermediate Wheel Throwing with Anne John

Mondays, 6:00-8:30pm

January 18-25, February 8 – March 4, fee $240

In this class students will refine throwing and trimming skills before progressing to larger, more complex forms. Simple decorative slip and glazing techniques will be offered. Basic throwing skills required.

 

Beginning Wheel Throwing and Introduction to Clay

with Stacy Shepanek

Thursdays, 9:30-12pm

January 21 – March 10, fee $240

This class will cover methods of centering clay and throwing cylinder and bowl forms such as mugs, cups and bowls. Students will learn how to finish their pots through trimming, decorating and glazing. Registering students should indicate what if any previous clay experience they have had.

 

Beginning Wheel Throwing and Introduction to Clay

with Miyako Fujiwara and Mark Vail

Thursdays, 6:00 – 8:30pm **FULL**

January 21 – March 10, fee $240

Introduction to Glaze Techniques

with Myra Bowie

Thursdays, 6-8:30pm

March 17 and March 24, fee $75

Students will be using different techniques to layer and create new glaze palettes for their ceramics. Students should bring 6 different types of bisque pieces that can fire to Cone 10 to practice new techniques. (please check with instructor to make sure your clay is compatible with cone 10 firing). This class is open to hand builders and wheel throwers with intermediate/advanced skills.

 

Alternative Approaches to Studio Glazing

with Saila Milja-Smyly

Wednesday, 6:00-8:00pm

February 10 fee $25

A demonstration of single fire and cone 8 glazing application and techniques, including samples of completed work showing the results of these techniques on altered surfaces.  Demonstrated techniques can be adapted to other firing temperatures.

 

Introduction to Handbuilding with Laura Blakely

Tuesdays, 6:00-8:30pm

January 18 – March 1 and March 15 fee $240

This class will introduce students to manipulation of clay using pinching, coiling, and slab techniques and simple surface decoration. Students will be instructed in the construction, assembly and glazing of the sculptural and/or functional objects of their choosing.

 

Children and Young People (4 Weeks)

Clay for Kids

with Celia Cerasoli

Tuesdays, 3:30-5pm

January 18 – February 9, fee $150 (Clay included.)

Students will learn the art of hand building while making fun projects in clay, using pinch and slab methods, and molds.  Ages 6-12.
